“There comes a time in life when you have to let go of all the pointless drama & the people who create it, & surround yourself with people who make you laugh so hard that you forget the bad and focus soley on the good. After all, life is too short to be anything but happy.”—Karl Marx (via quote-book) (via marxist-feminism)
A victim should never be made to apologize for a crime that has been committed against them. This is emotional rape. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for rape victims. I have encountered many, many people who feel it is necessary for a rape victim to forgive their attacker for the attacker’s sins in order to move on from the crime. This is not true. In fact, this is saying to the victim that they are somehow responsible for their attacker. They are not. They should never be. They should never feel that they are.
What message are we sending to rape victims when we place this stigma upon them? “Come forward, kiddies. We will continue to cause you pain for having the strength to speak out against your attacker.” Disgusting. People wonder why rape victims don’t report their attacks…
If you’ve been a victim of rape, don’t be afraid to say something. There are people who understand and even share your pain, and they can help:
As some of you may know, Paramount commissioned (in)famous director M. Night Shyamalan to adapt the popular Nickelodian series “Avatar: The Last Airbender” into a movie trilogy. The TV series revolves a fantasical, Hayao Miyazaki-inspired universe that deals with individuals capable of controlling and manipulating (aka “bending”) one or several of the earth’s elements – Earth, Wind, Water, and Fire – and how the main protagonist, Aang, the Last Airbender, is destined to bring back balance when the Fire nation’s imperialistic and war-mongering desires get out of hand. The movie is slated for release July 1st this year, and its production has led to a lot of controversy specifically with regards to its casting.
Though I’m not a particular fan of the show (nor do I dislike it) and am simply neutral overall, I feel that it is necessary to state for several reasons why I will not support this movie for professional, philosophical and personal reasons.
In those bleak moments when the lost souls stood atop the cliff, wondering whether to jump, the sound of the wind and the waves was broken by a soft voice. “Why don’t you come and have a cup of tea?” the stranger would ask.
The release from the Boulder Police Department about an alleged assault that took place yesterday on the Foothills Trail involving an unnamed woman and Michael Gonzales-Davis notes that she managed to “fight him off.” But the details of her response make her achievement seem much more impressive. The woman reportedly escaped after punching Gonzales-Davis several times in the face despite him being armed with a knife.
I want to be me. I want to paint and draw and create thing. I want to take 3 hour walks everyday just to listen to my favourite music as loud as I can and dance down the streets. I want have sleepovers. I want to be free. I want to have lots of crazy tattoos and piercings and beautiful coloured hair. I want to spend as much time with Kyle as possible. Most of these things I can’t do while I have a job. A job that I have come to hate. So I think I’m going to take a bit of a break from working. To have some fun. :] I only need money for food and I still have a few hundred left..So I’ll be okay for now. I’ll try to improve my art, maybe take a few commissions later on. We’ll see what the future holds!
